Technochaos

I hope this doesn't attract myriads of crackers and
script-kiddies, but I finally got DSL up and working. There are
still a few glitches. (I can't figure out how to start the
connection at boot up. Any Linux gurus out there with advice?) And
it's nowhere near the vaunted speed of 1.5MBps. But it's certainly
better than 56k. And now I'm always online. It's very sick. It's
like cocaine.
Not that I've ever tried cocaine. But I don't think I can go for
a day without getting online. I feel like I've been abducted by
Borg and assimilated. Or by Agents who have plugged me into the
Matrix. Some of the boundaries between reality and cyberspace
really are blurring. I feel like I've spent more time with my
friends from college who are in the S.F. Bay Area than with the
people who are around me. (Two of my friends have high speed access
at where they live, one of my friends has high speed access at
work, which is basically where he lives. Still, at least one of my
friends hasn't succumbed to the techno-frenzy yet.) I talk to my
brother and my sister almost everyday (well, I IM them, that is)
even though we're thousands of miles away.
But I just wanted to write something today, before I get bogged
down in finals. I also want to clear out my backlog of links.
Tendrils of spiderwebs
Caffeine.
America's drug of choice. Some pharmacology for anyone who cares. I
remember reading somewhere that they figured out that caffeine can
help your memory. Or something like that.
The
Holy Grail, also known as the Sangreal. I think this is an
example of taking the New Testament a little too far. Someone was
obviously doing shrooms. Damn Druids.
I think I'm starting to get over my SAD (Seasonal
Affective Disorder) The days are finally getting longer again.
On a related note, and since I have to know the pineal gland inside
and out for my histology final, did you know that waking up in the
middle of the night and turning on the lights totally ruins your
body's internal clock? It all has to do with melatonin and
serotonin. And did you know that the pineal gland is analogous to
the light sensitive spot that some amphibians have on the back of
their head commonly referred to as the "Third Eye"? Does that mean
that the members of "Third Eye Blind" are all insomniacs? It's
probably because they do methamphetamines too much
Well. I hope that was educational. Now back to your regularly
scheduled program.
