And I am
reminded that we can rant all we want in the blogosphere, but,
despite the insistance of Fox and MTV, of Google and Amazon.com,
those damned Boxes are still not Reality. In tribute of all you
Chicagoans who shut down Lake Shore Drive, all you New Yorkers who
marched on Times Square, all you Iraqis who want your country back,
free from Capitalist
Democracy™ and unexploded
cluster bombs and the Weapons of Mass Destruction that America sold
to your fearless leaders, to the Germans, French, and Russians who,
because of having been subject to fascism and despotism, perhaps
better than others, understand what Freedom really means, to all
the charity organizations who want to go to Afghanistan and Iraq to
actually help people, to the health care workers who do not
distinguish by uniform who they are supposed to treat. The
Revolution will not be captured in a blog, cut-and-paste, with a
comment button, the Revolution will not be streamed at 1.2 Mbps by
embedded reporters, the Revolution will not be a one-click
unscientific poll, the Revolution will not feature hanging chads.
The Revolution will not have a sequel (despite GMA's insistence),
or a director's cut on DVD.
The Revolution is not an AOL keyword. (In homage to Gil Scott-Heron.
