Democracy is Dead

So it's come to this, has it? Like the Romans before us, we have
come to value stability over the sanctity of our Constitution and
the rights that it expresses. By not defending the sovereign rights
of individuals, the Supreme Court has sacrificed all the ideals
this nation stands for. The words of Thomas Jefferson echo in my
head. "Those who desire to give up Freedom in order to gain
Security, will not have, nor do they deserve, either one." The men
and women who paid the ultimate price for Freedom are surely
rolling in their graves. The Fascists and the Communists are
probably laughing their asses off right now.
This is much greater than just George W Bush winning the
election. I'm sure even some Republicans are freaking out. Their
greatest principles have been compromised. Instead of being against
Big Government, they have relied on it for victory. Instead of
believing in the sovereignty of the individual and in state's
rights, they have espoused federalism. If you're a real Republican,
I think you would vomit in disgust at this travesty.
So now what? Will the American Empire stand strong? We might
even reign for centuries, much as the Romans and the British did
before us. But the cost is grave. Democracy has at last been
defeated. And the hard thing is that not everyone mourns it's
passing.
