The Spell Is Broken

Stray thoughts scurry through my mind. I have just finished watching "High Fidelity" (John Cusack is my hero.)

I think of the story of why the sampaguita (jasmine, the emblematic flower of the Philippines) is named what it is. From what I remember, the story is about an ill-begotten promise. (Sumpa kita is sometimes translated as "I swear to you.") and I sometimes wonder what happens when someone solemnly vows something and then something happens to make that vow impossible to keep.

so what is love then is it dictated or chosen?
(handed down and made by hand)
does it sing like the hymns of 1000 years?
or is it just pop emotion?
(handed down and made by hand)
and if it ever was there and it left
does it mean it was never true?
